Description:
While the K&N and similer intake kits are valid upgrades for alot of vehicles.. Not all of them need it. I have seen many trucks like mine with the K&N cold air intake..why bother wasting money and swapping them out? Just remove the top lid off the stock airbox/intake and either replace the filter more often, or get a washable one. Dont tell me its unsafe.. The K&Ns are just as exposed as this one, only with better filters. If you still run a paper filter..or even if you dont, I suggest putting the lid back on during rain, heavy dust or salt conditions(beach), or when offroad. By taking it off i noticed its louder(sounds better), and has a little bit more power between 800-2000 rpm.. used to lag a bit. First rev with lid on, second with it off.. First 2 runs are with it on, second are off. Not floored on any of the runs, and i was carefull while filming and driving(notice the blinker staying on..no 3rd hand). Gadgetman53 ::: Favorites Nice, I put a Generation 2 FIPK (K&N) in my '97 tahoe. I can tell a difference. 07-06-09 02:17:49 _____________________________________________________
JL157 ::: Favorites Yeah, mostly in sound and it sounds great..I finally had a chance to try it out some more today(only been a few miles since), burned up half a tank getting things done around town. Its definetly an auidable throb a ways away because when i opened it up everybody on the sidewalk looked back..Never had that before. It may have exhaust cuouts between the cats and mufflers soon as well. 07-06-09 02:25:43 _____________________________________________________
kurtass16 ::: Favorites nice truck man.. my dad has a 97 suburban with the 5.7 vortec ... not ripin on ur ride but i think the subs just a bit faster,, could be wrong 07-06-17 21:53:05 _____________________________________________________
JL157 ::: Favorites Told in description wasnt wide open..also hauling offroad gear, tools, and passengers. Stock vs stock, same tires, everything in 100% stock form..truck would beat suburban because of the weight difference. Open the airbox cover on it and see what you think in person..Sometimes it seems like it has no affect on performance(sucking in hot air vs cold) but it always has that badass sound. 07-06-18 15:28:34 _____________________________________________________
kurtass16 ::: Favorites oo, i thaught that was wide open 07-06-19 09:49:16 _____________________________________________________
JL157 ::: Favorites Naa not trying to blow the transmission or axle, its not even my truck its my mothers haha. I might do a wide open video run when im not hauling 1000 pounds extra..I should probably put 30's back on it for the run too..less stress and it will go faster, right now its on 33s. 07-06-19 12:47:04 _____________________________________________________
kurtass16 ::: Favorites as soon as my dad lets me take the sub out on a saturday night again ill take the air filter cover off,, just for the fuck of it to see if it makes a sound difference 07-06-19 17:10:27 _____________________________________________________

JL157 ::: Favorites Did you try it? 07-06-29 07:15:29 _____________________________________________________
JL157 ::: Favorites Update after a month of running it like this..Once the engine warms up its definetly not a noticable power increase..Thats because its sucking in hot engine air. Pulling cold(er..it is summer and 90 degrees afterall) air through fenders vs easy pull of warm/hot air..results are pretty much the same. Do your research before you buy a cold air intake kit.. If its not going to be pulling air in from a colder place then dont bother. 07-06-30 04:58:08 _____________________________________________________
kurtass16 ::: Favorites naw i didnt try it,, ive been drivin my impala most of the time,,, but have u thaught about making a heat shield 07-07-03 10:59:25 _____________________________________________________
JL157 ::: Favorites I actually havent thought about it..Might be something to check into, in the morning ill check the engine compartment and see.. But then again that might reduce flow a little bit.. Thanks for the idea. 07-07-03 22:45:10 _____________________________________________________

JL157 ::: Favorites Another month later i have come to the conclusion, that ANY under hood "cold air intake" will not make any performance difference in the summer once the engine has warmed up.. What i would suggest is a ram-in air tube from the front or running your cold air intake through the hood to intake fresh outside air. You could also run it down under the vehicle but it would get really dirty and suck in water. 07-08-06 08:51:52 _____________________________________________________ |
